Escape DC for the serenity of The Salamander, just an hour away.

This incredible getaway locale feels like you're in another world. A calm sets in while you are still driving and begin to encounter the sweet towns and farms of Middleburg. The feeling continues upon arrival on the 360 acre property with ample room to explore, stretch, and relax. The Salamandar website calls it the "D.C. area's only Five Star destination resort."

This feels about right, as all amenities are top notch and well kept, including the beds, linens, and spa like shower. For families, the option for both indoor and outdoor pools is ideal. We also love the lawn games (large chess boards, fire pits, frisbee golf and basketball court). Many of the extra activities are at an extra cost, so it's worth planning ahead and setting a budget so you don't experience sticker shock stress with horseback riding, art options, and golf, there are so many wonderful activities obviously not included in the price of the room.

We took advantage of the low key environment of the bar for dinner, and the breakfast at Harriman's was beyond delicious with an impressive variety of options for kids and adults alike.
