Dupont Circle, Washington, DC
I know people that live in DC who have never been to one of the city's public pools and I think they are missing out. Like most of the DC pools, Francis pool isn't fancy, but it is a great place to spend a summer afternoon. It's free for DC residents and they will ask for i.d. or some form of proof of residency. Francis pool has a large deck with numerous lounge chairs. On a busy weekend summer day, the lounge chairs might all be occupied, but there's plenty of space to lay out your towel. There are even a few umbrellas for shade. There is a separate kiddie pool with a maximum depth of about three feet. There's an adult pool with two 25 yard lap lanes. Francis pool is walking distance to restaurants in Dupont Circle and Georgetown, if you want to grab lunch or dinner.
